What is a scientific definition of balance?

I am working on my physical science homework (9th grade) and I have all of these terms that I have to look up the definitions to. I tried looking up balance, but there were so many definitions and I wasn’t sure which one to pick! Please give me the best definition of balance for Physical Science… Thanks!

A state of equilibrium or parity characterized by cancellation of all forces by equal opposing forces.
I think this is the most scientific definition of balance.

Depends what context it is in, but if the word ‘balance’ is just given on its own my definition would be ‘a state of equilibrium’. Short, sweet and does the trick
