How do you explain the meaning of a poem?

To explain the meaning of the poem, the ‘interpretation of the meaning,’ would that mean that i should describe what the poem is talking about, or something else….?

the meaning would be what the poem is talking about , wouldn’t it? And since I don’t know the name or what it says then it’s impossible to answer your question, isn’t it?

A good poem is one that has layers of meanings behind it’s surface meaning. The more interpretations one could make out of a poem’s meaning, the better the poem is said to be. To answer your question, “the meaning” of a poem would refer to its literal meaning. It could be the definitions of the words, the story in the poem, or the relationships of the imageries used in the poem. The “interpretation of the meaning” could refer now to the higher meaning of the poem. You are to talk about how the surface meaning relates to a universal meaning. What does the poem have to say about life, humanity, and the human experience? What can you get from the poem’s message? How can you reflect the poem’s message to your own life? to others’ lives?
