How do you explain a year gap in your resume?

I quit my last job and have been off of work for the last year dealing with mental health issues. I now am going to get working again and I don’t know how to explain this gap in my resume in a positive light. I was thinking of saying I was doing wilderness trips and building my character, as I knew I would never get another chance to do that. What do you guys think?

Tell the truth. If I were in a position to hire someone and they said they took off a year to go on wilderness trips and build character – I’d file the app in the TC and go on to the next one.
Lying is never a way to handle any situation.
