Can anyone please explain the meaning of Denotative words to me. I am so lost. ?

I am having to write a Paper on Denotative words most used on a college campus and I have no idea what this word means. I have looked it up and still can’t figure it out. I have to give 10 examples. If anyone could please explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

A denotative word is a word that you would look in the dictionary for. When you get that definition you can then look at the other forms it can be taken as. Such as the word grade. That can be used many different ways. if by any chance you are in communication class. I am to. lol
