Can anyone explain the meaning of the quote to me?
By
I found this quote by Paul Valer, and the quote goes on like this:
“God makes everything out of nothing, but the nothingness shows through.”
I understand the first half of the sentence. It praises God’s miracle and His creation. But the second half doesn’t make sense to me. Does anyone know the exact meaning of this quote? I am curious to know that. Thanks.

What a great quote! I think it means that despite the goodness of God in his/her creation of this world, it is not all ease and perfection. Life may be a bowl of cherries but, there are pits too. or, another saying which my cynical brother uses, “for every silver lining, there must be a cloud.”
Nothingness is a central concept of existentialists who believe that we must create meaning in our lives out of basically senseless situations. I think Valery is warning us of this need and so the quote, for me, is uplifting as well as sobering.

I’m not sure but I could interpret it 2 different ways.
One, meaning that the nothingness is part of the reality element and nothing except God is truly Divine.
Or two, as Woody Allen put it: “the best you can say about God is that he is basically an underachiever.”
