Baptisms – How many times have you been baptized?

By Dictionary

When belonging to one Denomination of a Christian Church and you select to change to another Christian Denomination, do you need to be re-baptized into that Church or is your first baptism good enough?

(There is no break in your faith just changing churches)

If re-baptisms are necessary, please explain as to why they are.
Thank you

Once, but as I understand it, all you need is one baptism, but then again I am an Atheist.

Once

Once when I was 8, my parents were idiots. Anybody that thinks an 8 year old is old enough to make a decision on whether or not “God” is real is a true fool. I still believed in Santa Claus!

I was only almost drowned by a religious nut once.

One time, against my will as a baby. Don’t get why they do that to newborns…I thought it was better to do it willingly than as a child.

Depends. I used to be Catholic, and they recognize one baptism, as do Methodists, Episcopals, Lutherans… others, too, I’m sure.

Baptists, Church of Christ-ians, and quite a few other evangelical Protestant denominations do it more than once even within one church. (I have quite a bit of experience with Protestantism, too.)

Personally, I think the whole thing is silly, but perhaps that’s just me.

What business is it of yours?

3 times:

1 – baptized as infant in Catholic Church
2 – baptized in Baptist Church to become a member
3 – baptized AFTER becoming born again in a non-denominational church

3rd time was THE charm!

Baptism is for believers only – the bible does not support baptism of infants. Repent and be baptised, every one of you in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins, and the you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit….Acts2v38……andv41 reads ‘All those who accepted his message were baptised’.

You are not baptised into any church or any religion – Peter’s words are to be baptised into the name of Jesus – and once only [Eph ch4] X

Edit – I would back up what Charis says – if you were baptised for example into the JW faith, God would not honour or recognise this baptism….so it would be necessary to be baptised after repentance and being born again, which the Lord would see as your first and only necessary baptism.

First, Baptism is only for born again Believers. It comes after salvation. It is not necessary for salvation. Baptism is to be administered regarding its meaning. Since each denomination views baptism differently therefore one would have to get re-baptized when changing denominations. For example…I am a Baptist, if a Catholic wanted to join my church he/she would first have to accept Christ as his Savior and then get re-baptized with the Baptist understanding of baptism. Baptism is a major doctrine of denominations and is not taken lightly. It signifies one’s death, burial, and resurrection that tie him with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. This can’t happen if one is not born again.

Four times in all – Each time was when I moved into a different church with my faith in tack. They however felt that those who baptized me were not worthy to do the job in the first place.
